Online learning community

Client EF Education First Design
Role UX & Service designer
Duration 4 months

EF - Education First provides English courses for private, business and schools. One of the main product of EF is EnglishLive, an online english courseware for adults on which the users can study through lessons, quizzes and online face to face classes with teachers.

The online school doesn't allow many interactions between student & teacher or between student & student.
Research show that sense of a community is an important factor in a learning experience and it can make it more enjoyable and productive. The aim of the project is to understand how the interactions among the users, teachers and students can enhance the language learning process and how can we redesign the online social experience in a more meaningful way, in order to fit the purpose of learning the language.

The first step was an in-depth research composed by literature review, competitor analysis and user interviews, that lead to the definition of personas and guideline principles

To gain ideas and early concepts two workshop were organised, one with field experts and one of co-design with the users

To conclude the process a concept was defined and shared through sketches & wireframing, fast prototyping & user testing

The results of the project were presented to the stakeholders of EF Education First Headquarters of Shanghai & London and it is currently under development

A big thank to the Experience Design Team of EF Education First Shanghai
